Phoenix on the Rise

Hello everyone! I am back with exciting news. As some of you may know, I had a really awful stretch of years where I lost five close family members in five years. The grief and depression spiral, along with the typical work stress many of us experience, meant that I had a rough time writing anything but book proposals for my agent.

Well the good news is that—like a Phoenix on the Rise—I’ve broken through that darkness to reach a happier, more inspired place. I have written more in the past few weeks than I have in years, and it feels fantastic! I’m still working on Fury 4, but it’s on the back burner for a bit as I focus on getting my indie publishing career off the ground. My agent is still shopping books to traditional publishers, but indie publishing is renewing my confidence and passion for writing.

Over the next few months, I will be publishing several books in my Elementals series, being renamed to Phoenix on the Rise. I have the new (and stunning) cover for Book 1 and am sharing it here. The cover art is by Lou Harper with Cover Affairs. She is awesome! I will be making a few edits to that manuscript and then republishing it in Kindle and launching Book 2, Forged from Flame. I’m most of the way through the first draft of that book and should have its cover soon. Those books will be ebook only at first, but I will later make print versions available.

I also plan to publish a steampunk UF and White-Knuckled Fear next year. I will be launching a new, awesome newsletter with fresh content soon, so keep an eye out for that. I will be updating this page (and social media) more often now so please check back often.

And above all, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your patience and support. Without my readers, I couldn’t do this. You are amazing!

Reborn in Fire Available from Amazon!

I forgot to make an official post here. Reborn in Fire is now available from Amazon. Please check it out if you’re interested; and if you enjoy it, please spread the word! This is one of my favorite urban fantasies/paranormal romances I’ve written, and I hope you enjoy it, too.

Plot Description:

Cassidy Grant just died for the first time. She wakes amid flames after being murdered: naked and unsinged. A stranger rescues Cass before her murderers can return. Jake’s touch ignites her as surely as fire’s caress, but he forces her to face facts she would rather deny. She is no longer quite human, and a group of fanatics will stop at nothing to kill the Phoenix a second time. Permanently.  (more…)

Reborn in Fire – First Three Chapters…

It will soon be official! I have uploaded Reborn in Fire to Kindle KDP and it should soon be live. I will update once it is available. In the meantime, please enjoy the first three chapters. If you like them, please consider buying the entire e-book from Kindle and spreading the news. Every little bit helps, and will make it easier for me to write and self-publish Shades of Fury Book 4. Thank you!

Reborn in Fire…by Kasey Mackenzie

Chapter One

The investigation started out normally enough, but when masked men dressed like extras in a Bruce Lee movie burst into the warehouse, even an idiot could have predicted that someone was about to meet a Very Bad End. Unfortunately, that someone turned out to be me.

From outside, the building appeared no different from the dozens of others in this industrial neighborhood. But while all the nearby warehouses bustled with activity from sunup to sundown, this one remained empty for no good reason. Supposedly, the joint was haunted. I rolled my eyes, wondering for the thousandth time how otherwise sane people could buy into the whole paranormal schtick. Then again, that penchant for gullibility did keep me gainfully employed. Yeah, people actually paid me to search for things that went bump in the night; but so far, I’d turned up nothing more fearsome than a tomcat on the prowl.

Upcoming Urban Fantasy

Whew, I am once again way overdue for a more substantive update (okay, ANY update), so I just wanted to give a quick one now to announce the news that I will be indie-publishing an urban fantasy of mine called Reborn in Fire. I absolutely love this book and hope that readers will, too. I am planning to offer this for sale via Kindle (and hopefully some other places) within the next few weeks, so keep your eyes open for that. If this one sells decently, my hope is to then be able to write and publish Fury 4 (tentatively titled White-Knuckled Fear) sometime in the not-so-distant future. I would be able to use some/most of the profit from RIF to have a professional cover in the same style as the first three designed, and to have it professionally edited. So if you are eagerly anticipating more Shades of Fury books, please get the word out there and help support RIF! All support is appreciated greatly.

My agent also has an epic fantasy proposal called Stormstruck, which we hope to submit to NY publishers soon, so hopefully I’ll have even more exciting news to report later. (more…)
