Kasey Mackenzie

Fiction Critique / Mentoring Services

Kasey offers manuscript and proposal critique/mentoring services for aspiring authors and truly loves sharing the experience and knowledge she’s gained over the past few years.  She offers auctions on Ebay from time to time and will also accept new clients via email exchanges if they wish to contact her directly to discuss working together.  Evaluation services are typically offered at a flat fee of $100 for partial/proposal evaluations and $350 for full manuscript evaluations but the actual quote may depend upon the amount of hours required to give a truly in-depth evaluation for specific manuscripts.  (I.e. if a particular manuscript needs a tremendous amount of improvement, that may take a lot more time and the quote could go up.  I will inform the author immediately and offer the option of continuing on with the critique at a higher rate OR doing the best job I can with the manuscript at the original rate.)

Partial / Proposal Evaluations:

For partial/proposal evaluations, I offer an in-depth critique of the first 3 chapters (not to exceed 75 pages), query letter, and synopsis (not to exceed 5 double-spaced pages) of an urban fantasy/paranormal romance (preferred) OR romance OR fantasy/science fiction manuscript.  My debut urban fantasy, Red Hot Fury, comes from Penguin/Ace Books in July, 2010.  Please email me via the contact link at the bottom of this page to ask any questions about the auction before bidding.

I will work with the winning bidder to polish up the proposal to a high shine and give any wanted advice before the bidder starts shopping the story. NOTE: Please keep in mind that this will be a professional but HONEST and THOROUGH critique. If you feel like your proposal is perfect as is or expect a very gentle critique, please consider bidding on another item. I will require that the winner sign a simple freelance agreement setting out the rights and responsibilities for both parties and will not in any way, shape, or form claim ownership over the winning bidder’s proposal or manuscript.  Please feel free to email me via the contact link at the bottom of the page if you’d like to see a copy of the agreement before bidding.

Full Manuscript Evaluations:

For full manuscripts, I offer an in-depth critique of a full manuscript (not to exceed 500 pages), query letter, and synopsis (not to exceed 5 double-spaced pages) of an urban fantasy/paranormal romance OR fantasy OR romance manuscript.  My debut urban fantasy, Red Hot Fury, comes from Penguin/Ace Books in July, 2010.  Please email me via the contact link at the bottom of this page to ask any questions about the auction before bidding.
